I think that as we experience deaths of our loved ones throughout our lives, we do become numb to it to a certain extent. There's only so much loss humans can take before they just put up a kind of wall. At least, this is true for me. In the past 15 years, I've lost my father, my brother, my youngest sister, and my mother. If I really stopped to think deeply about my pain (especially concerning my favorite sister's death) I couldn't go on with life.

Christine,
I do empathize with you. Loss of loved ones is one of the most painful experiences. It truly tests our faith and belief that they are truly in a better place. And this is also our challenge; to live our live in such a way that it is pleasing to God. So, one day we will be reunited with them.
Peace
Hal
